Storm is heading to Paris

Storm first became a member of Junior roller derby at the age of 8 while living in QLD. When Storm moved to Victoria, she joined East Vic in their junior program. Storm then found out about Gippsland Ranges Roller Derby’s Skate Fit program, that at the time was held in Leongatha community centre. Storm was the youngest member of skate fit at the time and wowed everyone with the skating skills she had and even started to give some of the skate fit participants tips on helping them with their skill learning.
Storm then moved up to league and started attending and playing Roller Derby, showcasing all the skills and techniques she had learnt over the years, quickly passing her star/level assignments to be able to participate in full contact derby scrims/games and becoming a trainer for our junior rollers.

Then in October 2022 nominations for tryouts opened for the Team Australia Juniors Roller Derby Team, to play/scrim the junior world cup. Storm’s nomination was sent in and in early December She attended try out session number 2 in Toowoomba, Queensland. This was an intense 6hr try out, for all attendees to show their Derby and teamwork skills.  Then came the wait to see who made the team.

Just in time for Christmas the Team Australia Junior 2023 team was released, and 20 lucky junior players were officially picked to represent Australia in France in 2023, from Gippsland Ranges Roller Derby, Hobart Junior Roller Derby, Kingston City Rollers, Lil' Adelaide Rollers, Mackay City Rollers, Rockabellas Roller Derby League Inc, Toowoomba City Rollers. Now to rest and start focusing on training that starts in February 2023.

Training consists of 6 in person training sessions in different states, online training, and a training schedule to do at home, all while still attending, derby training, derby games/scrims, school, work, and social life. Such a massive dedication for all these junior players.

If you wish to catch Storm in action, you can see Storm play locally in our annual pride cup at the Warragul Leisure Centre on the 3rd of June, starting at 10am.
