Community Activation

Members of Gippsland Ranges Roller Derby are proud to actively contribute to a number of community events and activities. Our members hold many roles in community, and we are proud to ‘give back’ and contribute in the small ways we can.

In 2019 alone, we contributed to:

Girls’ day out

Our second year supporting the annual breast cancer fundraising event for up to 700 people at Lardner Park. Our members volunteered their time and energy to hospitality of this event, so proceeds could be reserved towards the fundraising tally rather than staffing

The first Gippsland Pride Initiative

The First Australian Pride Cup of Roller Derby, Community Inclusion Forum, and the 2019 Inaugural Pride Gala. Thanks to the overwhelming success of this project, we are delighted to see the incorporation of the Gippsland Pride Initiative Inc. in October 2019 to continue efforts of education, celebration and inclusion of LGBTQI+ in Gippsland and beyond.

Screen for me

In collaboration with Nanoo Nanoo Production Company and the Gippsland Primary Health Network, we received training from the Cancer Council Victoria in screening and statistics related to breast, cervical and bowel cancer. Our members actively facilitated several public engagement activities on skates as part of the Screen For Me Campaign, encouraging Gippslander’s to undertake life-saving cancer screening.

Traralgon and Districts Agricultural Society

Over the past three years and particularly in 2019, our members have directly enabled efforts to repair and revitalise the buildings of the Traralgon and Districts Agricultural Society and revitalise the Annual Traralgon Show. This past year, we partnered with Bunnings Traralgon to clean, repair and revitalise the Rural Room Meeting Space for the first time in 30+ years. We also facilitated clean up and basic repairs to the Secretary’s Office and administrative support to this community organisation of 130+ years.
